What Is Alarm Verification?
What alarm verification means, how it works and why it comes before escalation.
Alarm verification is the step of assessing an alarm event to judge whether it is likely to be genuine before escalating it.
How it works
Depending on the systems and the client's protocol, an operator may review video from nearby cameras, check other sensor activity, listen through audio where available, or follow a contact procedure with site personnel. The sources available vary from site to site.
Why it matters
Escalating every alarm without checking can overload responders and the client's own team. Verification helps direct attention to events that need action and records why other alarms were closed.
Limits
Verification is only as good as the information available. It depends on camera coverage, system compatibility and connectivity, and it does not guarantee that every false alarm is filtered out or every real event detected. Requirements for requesting police or emergency response also vary by location, so the client's protocol and local rules decide what happens next.
